image

Rent University (www.rent-u.com) is back in session with its first two classes of the summer coming this June! The classes are formatted into two-hour sessions with up to 20 participants and an instructor speaking about and opening up a discussion on different topics relevant to men actively working in the sex industry. A suggested donation of $10-$20 for each class is encouraged to keep the program going, but participants are never turned away as scholarships are available.

The next class, Writing Your Story, will be presented on Thursday, the 6th of June in New York City with David Henry Sterry to discuss how best to share your story in the industry.

This two-hour workshop from one of America’s most celebrated authors promises to give aspiring and established writers in the sex industry a crash course in story-telling structure, pace and that special spark. Course includes writing exercises and gives each participant a chance to share their experiences and ask questions of the instructor and each other.

Coming up on Thursday, the 20th of June is BDSM Fun(damentals) with Master Avery guiding newcomers and veterans alike through the basics of kink and fetish practices.

There are skills and there are BDSM skills. Maybe you know some basics, maybe you don’t. Master Avery is one of New York City’s most highly respected BDSM instructors. With conversation and guidance, you can better understand many complex kink practices.

Rent University NYC Classes Continue Thursday, March 14th: TALKING RAW SEX IN NEGOTIATED SAFETY

”Why It’s So Hard To Talk About Bareback Sex”
by Kyle Bella
With more than 50% of gay men no longer using condoms consistently, the shame that often prevents candid discussion of bareback sex may prove to be as dangerous as the health risks themselves.

I had been living in New York City just long enough to know about the risks of bareback sex, the statistics, the history, and the ghosts. This is not a cautionary tale; this is about a decision I made, and keep making.

In October 2010, I met a guy online who was visiting from France. That night, after meeting in a midtown Starbucks, we went to his hotel room. I never asked about his HIV status. I watched him do a line of coke in the bathroom, and even knowing that, knowing he was some unfamiliar man doing things I never envisioned myself doing, we fucked each other without condoms. And it felt good. This was the scariest part for me. Not the risk itself, but the fact that I enjoyed it.

My Initiation Into RENT UNIVERSITY by Eli Lewis

My Initiation Into RENT UNIVERSITY
by Eli Lewis

Rent University is a program created by men in the sex industry for other men in the sex industry, with the goal of opening up an honest and factual forum to discuss topics that impact our daily lives both as gay men and as male escorts. Each class is divided into sets of weekly two hour workshops led by experienced professionals from inside and outside of the industry to shed light on pertinent information and incite a conversation about how to work and live smarter.

In order to create a private, secure, and confidential environment for such a meeting one must register for each class to obtain the address and location of the workshop. A recommended donation of $10 to $20 is also encouraged to help fund and continue the program, but no one is turned away due to a lack of funds. One can also apply for a scholarship in order to attend the workshops.

I attended my first class yesterday to listen to Seth Eaker, a personal trainer and life coach, discuss how we use our bodies in the business and how best to optimize our time to attain our goals in his class “Building the Perfect Body.” During this seminar we discussed everything from client-escort relationships and expectations, essential information pertaining to our bodies and how key elements such as nutrition, training, rest, and recreational drug use affect it, to our shelf life as male escorts, and the importance of visibility, open dialogue, and community within our brotherhood of men.

I’ve heard both positive and negative reviews from other escorts as to why I should or should not attend a workshop, but I walked in with an open mind and the single expectation of learning something from Seth and my peers. Although the information we shared regarding how we can optimally use our bodies to achieve our personal and professional goals widely enlightening, I learned something far more valuable during those two hours than any class could teach.
