Meet HAWK KINKAID, Rentboy.com’s New Chief Operating Officer and Sex Activist

image

Meet HAWK KINKAID, Rentboy.com’s new Chief Operating Officer. Hawk was one of the founders of the sex-work education community Hook-Online.com; he’s a sex activist and has had a successful career working in project management and design for major corporate brands before joining the team at rentboy.com

Q&A with HAWK KINKAID by Sean Van Sant

Be honest, is Hawk your real name?
It’s what I use, and I used it long before my hair matched the name.

Does that mean you were an escort?
And bodyworker. And webcam model. And pro-dom. Many of us that worked in the industry have touched various parts of it. I was in and out of the business four times. Sometimes for necessity and sometimes just to meet a financial goal like paying off my incredible private college debt. I’m grateful my experiences in the industry have never left me unwilling to return, and more so, it helped me appreciate when it was time for me to exit the business and build a different career.

What was your career after escorting?
I started in graphic design for small companies, eventually crawling my way up via work in interactive art direction, information architecture, and project management to specialize in user experience strategy for a number of larger national brands. I love that the entirety of an experience has to take into account components such as business needs, available resources and changes in technology. My history is all about bridging all of those elements into a comprehensive solution that has an eye toward future developments. I am passionate about the road ahead.

How do you feel being the first COO for Rentboy.com?
It’s an exciting job. The team has done such a phenomenal job building the leading site for men working in the sex industry. Not just that. Rentboy’s dedication to supporting community through events that acknowledge the many dimensions of the men working in the business is so important to me. Oftentimes, men, women and trans workers in the industry are mischaracterized by the media and conservative pundits that look to gain traction in their own agendas by reducing escorts to Lifetime specials. The reality is far more complex. I believe in continuing the commitment to being an honest, straightforward and helpful media and technology tool for our guys, their clients and the families and communities that support them.

So, who is the typical escort now?
Great question with no single answer. It’s always been a diverse pool. Men working in the business range from middle-aged men with advanced degrees to many eccentric, talented artists developing their creativity. Men working in the sex industry have always been around as integral components in the fabric of queer identity. In a world enjoying the accomplishments of many LGBT leaders in the ‘60s, we often forget to mention that no small number of them were hustling to afford living in the cities that they marched in. All races. All sizes and shapes. All ages. The men working through Rentboy.com defy categorization, but they do share a few things in common. They tend to approach their work as the business that it is. They are making important decisions about their own lives. They are aware that the stigma associated to those decisions put them at risk for termination from jobs, rejection from family and other harmful reactions in spite of escorting being a legal occupational choice.

How do you see the world overcoming that stigma?
De-criminalization of prostitution is the first step. It hangs like a cartoon Acme safe over the heads of so many people. There are innumerable reports of police and other individuals in positions of power taking advantage of the very real threats of exposure and prosecution for people working in the sex industry. I don’t believe all institutions are bad, and I want to believe that what we need is to dialogue with businesses and organizations that are sexwork sensitive to establish constructive harm reduction policies that reduce real risks to the community such as sales of narcotics, sexual assault, and transmission of preventable diseases. I am inspired by the great work done by programs like the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition where they have successfully brought police on board with overdose prevention programs by advancing the Good Samaritan laws. Working with our community, we can better the understanding of officers, collaborate to find solutions to real issues and forge a path forward together. Trafficking, for example, is real, but escorting and trafficking are not the same thing. The move to elide those two concepts have done substantial harm to the many individuals who have made careers working in the adult industry. Regardless of how you feel about the adult industry, criminalizing the behavior won’t end it and de-criminalizing sexwork dissolves the ability for the system to abuse those who are making their participation in the sex industry a responsible, mature choices for their life.

You’ve been a long-time activist for guys working in all forms of the adult industry. How do you see that affecting your approach to managing rentboy.com?
Obviously, I feel strongly about many facets of the business, and through many national and international speaking engagements, I have said time and time again that the businesses of the adult industry work best when they work responsibly. I am proud to join a team that has displayed that and continues to build on that commitment. It’s a good fit. We have much to do. And we will do it through our strong community.

Does that mean escorting is for everyone?
Definitely not. I would make a terrible barista. Or plumber. Or doctor. Like any occupation, it requires the personality, skills and knowledge capable to do this work well. My biggest achievement as an activist is building a program that facilitates men sharing information with other men choosing to work in this industry. This program helps men avoid common pitfalls that could pose serious challenges to their well-being. Guys who choose to work in this industry are making a decision, and I support that. Most of them are here temporarily, like a tourist, and they will meet whatever need they have and leave. They should. They will go on and do things like nursing, fashion design, user experience strategist, COO. The others – the ones that make it a long-term career – they know they need to plan by paying taxes, getting health insurance, building strong social networks of support. They get it. It’s a business, and they know that.

It can’t all be business, can it?
We are in the business of pleasure like every other entertainer out there. It’s about your contact with the audience, the fun you can have and the meaningful interaction. With my clients, so much of the time was spent having dinner, listening to great stories, and really connecting with that other person. Think about it. When you go to the neighborhood bar or local barber, you talk to the same guy about your life for days, weeks, and years. We make an investment in that person and their discretion. They get paid for sitting there listening to you, providing a service like pouring your drinks or cutting your hair, and being someone you trust that stays in a place just far enough away from your daily life. They don’t come home with you. You even tip them more as you get to know them better because you build a natural rapport.  Our guys are like that. Good, trustworthy and sexy contacts that you spend time with outside of the life you normally have.

You said ‘sexy’. What is sexy to you?
It’s that connection. Beautiful bodies are all well and good, and for many people they are a focus of attention. Vision dominates our sensibilities disproportionately and no matter how cerebral you want to be, you are more favorable to the more attractive candidate in a queue. Is it fair? No. Is it true? Scientists have research that says quantifiably, ‘yes’. For me, it’s not enough to be beautiful, though, and more importantly, how we appear is not all that I am, that you are and certainly not all that any escort is. I find someone sexy when I have made a connection with them, when we relate on a level that matters. I look for that.

You finally going to tell me: why the name Hawk?
Have you seen the hair? I was born for this.

Read ERIC BARRY’s Interview w/ HOOK Online About Being a Gay For Pay Escort

image

via Hook-Online.com

HOOK: You came forward to talk about your time working in the industry as “Gay for Pay” in a very public way. What prompted it?

Eric Barry: I had been open with my friends and family for years about it – including women I was seeing while I was working.

But given that I host the Full Disclosure podcast where I’m interviewing sex workers, it seemed like I’d be doing an injustice to humanizing those in the industry without relaying my own experiences. There’s a lot of misperception about who decides to get into sex work, and there’s a lot of socially accepted stigmatization against sex workers.

Most of the sex workers I know are remarkably intelligent, well-rounded individuals. These aren’t people who were brought into the industry as a result of prior abuse or substance addiction. Of course people will point to examples of drug addicts who have used sex work to pay for their addiction, but the problem there isn’t that someone is doing sex work, the problem is that someone is a drug addict.

I wanted to change these perceptions.

RAFAEL ALENCAR ON LEAVING PORN, FUCKING FAMOUS CLIENTS, AND BREAKING HIS DICK (via TheSword)

RAFAEL ALENCAR (www.rentboy.com/RafaelAlencar) met with with Adam Baran of TheSword on the set of NakedSword's latest film The Pack to answer a few interview questions.

“Hi, I’m Rafael. Nice to meet you!” he says, as he shakes my hand and then presses it playfully against his enormous uncut cock, which is jutting out of his open pants. “Um, nice to meet you too,” I stammer, trying to appear cool as I start to pre-cum. I’m on the set of The Pack,NakedSword Originals’ forthcoming film about a gang of edgy “sexual performance artists” who indoctrinate a new member into their ranks at the instruction of group leader Rafael Alencar. For the next two hours, I watch as Mr. Pam, the boisterous writer/director of the film, instructs her favorite leading man through a series of set-ups with his co-star Marcus Isaacs — still photos, then cocksucking and fucking in a variety of challenging positions. Rafael appears to be a pro through all of this. He sticks it out and gets the job done, even when things get tense.

Not content — financially or otherwise — to just be one of the most famous porn stars in the world, Raf is also one of the world’s most successful and in-demand escorts, especially since winning Mr. International Escort 2011 at Rentboy’s Hookie Awards. When we meet two weeks later, on a stormy Sunday afternoon at a Starbucks in Hell’s Kitchen, the phone rings all through our interview. But even though he’s losing money by taking the hour off to talk to me, he’s focused on giving a good interview and remains kind, generous, and open throughout.

2014 Hookies Awards: Best Daddy Finalist - Interview w/ UNION JACK

image

2014 Best Daddy Finalists:

  1. SAILOR in New York City
  2. JAKE MITCHELL in San Francisco
  3. CHRIS ROBERTS in New York City
  4. STEVE in New York City
  5. ADAM RUSSO in Los Angeles

UNION JACK in London

(Q) Where are you originally from and where do you currently live?
(A) I am originally from Canada, born to British parents. I recently moved back to London to rediscover my heritage. The last place I lived was Vancouver, British Columbia - one of the crown jewels of places to live in North America.

(Q) When did you first start escorting and why did you decide to try it out?
(A) I started escorting last year and decided to try it out because the man I was dating was a fellow escort. He showed me just how respectable and honorable a profession it could be from his professionalism and high standards of conduct. He truly is my source of inspiration and admiration, and remains the gold standard I aspire to be while doing this wonderful job.

(Q) What do you enjoy doing in your downtime, when not escorting?
(A) I enjoy painting large canvases in acrylic paint. My last series was an exploration of big nudes and vintage neon from Seattle and Vancouver. I am currently working on a series that focuses on the sadomasochistic rituals in religious paintings.

(Q) What qualities set you apart from all of the other nominees? Why are you the Best Daddy?
(A) While I cannot directly say why I am a better daddy than the other nominees, I can confidently say that I consider myself to be the best because I try to embody the best qualities one associates with a “Dad”. I care about my sons and their well-being and nurture their mental, physical, and sexual growth.

My background in psychology helps me be more than just a shag. I listen and respond with positive actions. I try my best to be a good role model whose behavior is kind, considerate, and courteous - someone they can be proud to call and be around. I am also not one to hold back on discipline and a firm slap on the ass for the naughty ones!

image

(Q) Have you ever done porn? Would you consider doing it?
(A) I have not filmed any professional porn, but have been approached by studios in the United States, England, and Berlin. I am most definitely interested, and am currently working out a lot to put forth the best me I can achieve.

(Q) How are you preparing for The Hookies Awards and Black Party weekend?
(A) Winning the title of Best Daddy would mean that I’m on the right path to achieving my personal goal of being the best escort I can be. I take great pride in my work and this recognition would mean a lot to me. It also means that I can’t rest on my laurels and would push me to do better.

I would hope that the recognition would bring my profile to the a greater variety of potential clients. I would hope that the title would alleviate the hesitation that some clients have when hiring for the first time. It would be a great seal of approval.

image

(Q) Where do you see yourself in five years? Do you think you will still be part of the industry, or do you have another career you are pursuing.
(A) If Mother Nature continues to shower me with favors and rewards my hard work at staying fit and healthy, I see no reason why I wouldn’t continue. I like the idea that older gentlemen can maintain a desirability and sexuality. I remember when I was younger most of my cohorts thought that gay life was over after 35! Times certainly have changed; I would love to see more Daddy figures in gay media and adult entertainment. You can always teach an old dog new tricks!

(Q) Do you have a personal website or social networking profile to which we can direct your fans?
(A) I have a personal website that directly focuses on BDSM services I provide, it’s called www.SubmitFuckers.com.

SHAY MICHAELS in Los Angeles

(Q) Where are you originally from and where do you currently live?
(A) I was born in Amarillo, Texas on a corn farm but have since moved to LA where I’ve been for almost a year now. I love it here!

(Q) When did you first start escorting and why did you decide to try it out?
(A) I started a little over three years ago after I lost my previous job and needed to find a way to support myself, it’s been quite the journey ever since.

image

(Q) What do you enjoy doing in your downtime, when not escorting?
(A) Fitness is my passion. I love tot rain and work with others to obtain their fitness goals. I am in the process of getting my personal training certification so that I can start to train clients on a full-time basis.

(Q) What qualities set you apart from all of the other nominees? Why are you the Best Bear?
(A) I am extremely professional and treat my clients with absolute respect. My goal with each client is to put them at ease and create a fantasy experience that is unparalleled by anything else that they’ve ever had. I think I’m also the Best Bear based on my looks and build. I am of German and French descent, and having a uniquely European look. Since I am also a personal trainer I’m a true muscle cub which definitely sets me apart from the others.

image

(Q) How are you preparing for The Hookies Awards and Black Party weekend?
(A) I have been using Twitter to ask my fans to vote for me. I’m currently bulking up and even growing out my beard for a more rugged look, which I think my fans will love!

(Q) Porn and escorting can be fun and lucrative ways of achieving your dreams. How has one, or both, helped you reach these goals?
(A) Porn and escorting has allowed me to pay off old debt accrued from the recession. Retiring my debt has allowed me to travel, which I absolutely love. Porn and escorting are now allowing me to fully support myself financially while I start to create a personal training business. My clients have also been a great resource for me as a potential pool of personal training clients to pull from as they not only trust me with their personal fantasies but also their physical appearance and health.

image

I(Q) What advice would you give to newcomers or those who are thinking about escorting or doing porn for the first time?
(A) My first piece of advice is to really examine your people skills. Escorting is about being able to blend well with many different types of personalities. As an escort you have to be able to perform with your client regardless of age or appearance. A real professional will be prepared for a variety of different people regardless of size, shape, or age.

(Q) Do you have a personal website or social networking profile to which we can direct your fans?
(A) I have a Tumblr account which can be found at shaymichaelsxxx and on Twitter at @Shay_Michaels.

2014 Hookies Awards: Best Body Finalist - Interview w/ MARCO SESSIONS

2014 Best Body Finalists:

  1. AUSTIN WOLF in New York City
  2. MYKKO in Miami
  3. TYSON TYLER in London
  4. BERNARDO in London
  5. JESSE SANTANA in Dallas

MARCO SESSIONS in London

(Q) Where are you originally from and where do you currently live?
(A) I was born in Hungary, moved to Romania at age 3, and finally moved to London, where I am currently based, at age 21.

(Q) When did you first start escorting and why did you decide to try it out?
(A) I first started escorting about two years ago. I was never afraid to get naked and be in porn, so it was a pretty natural transition, and my boyfriend at the time was also escorting so I picked up a few tips and tricks from him.

(Q) What do you enjoy doing in your downtime, when not escorting?
(A) I love to travel, watch movies, and work on my fitness.

(Q) What qualities set you apart from all of the other nominees? Why do you have the Best Body?
(A) I like the other nominees and would never sell any of us short, so I’ll just say that we’re all the best at what we individually do!

(Q) How are you preparing for The Hookies Awards and Black Party weekend?
(A) I actually haven’t sent my nomination call out, even though I have over 50,000 people on my social platforms. I want to let them decide which guy they think is best.

(Q) Porn and escorting can be fun and lucrative ways of achieving your dreams. How have one, or both, helped you reach your goals?
(A) They’ve both taught me a lot about myself personally. You have to stay true to who you are and work to make sure you change yourself for the better, not because anyone else wants you to be different.

(Q) What advice would you give to newcomers or those thinking about escorting or doing porn for the first time?
(A) You have to be genuine. Hot is hot, but I have found that my clients love a great personality attached to a sexy body, with a great smile and honest conversation. That will have clients calling you back for repeat engagements!

(Q) Do you have a personal website or social networking profile to which we can direct your fans?
(A) You can find me mostly on Twitter at @MarcoSessions!

2014 Hookies Awards: Best Daddy Finalist - Interview w/ ADAM RUSSO

image

2014 Best Daddy Finalists:

  1. SAILOR in New York City
  2. JAKE MITCHELL in San Francisco
  3. CHRIS ROBERTS in New York City
  4. STEVE in New York City
  5. UNION JACKAL in London

ADAM RUSSO in Los Angeles

(Q) Where are you originally from and where do you currently live?
(A) I’m originally from a place called Bryn Mawr, PA and now live in Los Angeles - or at least that’s where my artwork resides. I travel so much these days I’m barely there!

(Q) When did you first start escorting and why did you decide to try it out?
(A) I first started five years ago. I thought about it doing it years before, but the timing wasn’t right. I decided it was time to shake things up and I wanted to experience something different. I love what I do and am glad that people seem to appreciate it.

(Q) What do you enjoy doing in your downtime, when not escorting?
(A) I meet up with friends when I can. I like to have dinner and rinks out and about, and sometimes see art and theatre shows - dancing is always fun, too. My partner, CUTLER X, is supposed to take me line dancing one of these days. I looks like it would be fun!

(Q) What qualities set you apart from all of the other nominees? Why are you the Best Daddy?
(A) I am very intuitive when it comes to knowing what the other person needs. The role of a Daddy can be complex: control, comfort, mentor, passion… a certain look is also associated with the role as well as an attitude about life. Guys come to me for that experience - I already have several boys who call me Daddy, so I guess I have a family now!

That being said, that’s not the only thing I offer. I have many clients who want the boyfriend experience, and I can easily provide that because I’m naturally a very passionate person.

(Q) How are you preparing for The Hookies Awards and Black Party weekend?
(A) I’m honored to have been nominated. I have asked my fans to vote me, of course - as for the gym, I consider it to be part of my job at this point. I haven’t given much time to what I’ll be wearing at the awards show quite yet, though. I’m sure there’s something in my closet!

(Q) What advice would you give to newcomers or those who are thinking about escorting or doing porn for the first time?
(A) Escorting certainly feeds off porn. It’s a way for clients to see what you can do. We can fulfill their fantasy without judgment and do it well. I approach my business in a very profession way that means answering calls, texts, and emails promptly, showing up on time, looking like my pictures, etc.

We provide a very needed service and should be proud of what we do. My goal is to continue to save up and invest in, and perhaps buy, a piece of property so I can continue to travel and have fun. Acting in a mainstream movie may be in the cards as well; more on that later!

(Q) Porn and escorting can be fun and lucrative ways of achieving your dreams. How has one, or both, helped you reach these goals?
(A) If you aren’t into different kinds of men and boys, then don’t become an escort. If you are looking for your next hit off the pipe, don’t escort. If you want to meet interesting people, travel, have fun, make money, and approach this as a business, then you should consider becoming an escort. As for the porn, you won’t make much money there but it does help supplement your escorting career. People can see a video of you as many times as they like, but there’s only one you.

(Q) Do you have a personal website or social networking profile to which we can direct your fans?
(A) You can see more content at AdamRussoXXX.com and follow me on Twitter at @AdamRussoxxx!
